A former Dunkin’ Donuts employee in Las Vegas was charged with workers’ compensation fraud by the Nevada Attorney General’s office who had been investigating his case. He has pled guilty to a class “D” felony for falsely collecting benefits for a little over a year, starting in March of 2013.
Joseph Bricker claims that when he was working at the coffee chain he suffered a severe back injury and ended up with a permanent and partial disability. What investigators found out was that he had a pre-existing work-related back injury and never told Dunkin’ Donuts about it, denying it even when he was asked about it several times.
While he was collecting benefits he operated a handyman business and did certain physical things that his doctor had restricted him from doing.
He defrauded his company and their insurer for over $150,000 worth of benefits and treatments.
Some people in Las Vegas get rich from playing the slots or rolling the dice, but this guy gambled with the wrong system and got caught.
