We are always posting stories about fatalities or someone trying to get one over on the system. Today we bring you a story about a community that came together to help a neighbor injured on the job.
Injured workers have long known the struggles it takes when trying to receive workers compensation. Whether it is fighting with the insurance company to get coverage or a doctor to take a second look, it never seems to be an easy task once you have been hurt.
In 2013 Scott Musson was working at a crane company when a 1,200 pound beam fell on him damaging two of his vertebrae and tearing his shoulder. He is unable to work due to the constant nerve pain he suffers, this has also effected his day-to-day living as well.
Musson’s doctors say he requires a surgery to fix his injuries, but Accident Fund insurance company has been denying his coverage.
Accident Fund released a statement on Scott’s worker’s comp case, saying in part, “AF Group is committed to providing workers’ compensation benefits in a fair and lawful manner and we believe our actions in this instance we’re justified and in compliance with the law.”
With Scott unable to do normal household chores, his wife Tonya struggled to keep with with the maintenance of the home. They worried about how they would find the money to replace a much needed roof on their home.
Taking some much needed time away with some friends, Tonya received a call that a ton of cars we at her home. Thinking her 20-year son had a party she called him and told him to clean up and make sure Scott did not find out about this to worry about it.
Their son was not having a party at all. In fact their friends and neighbors we at the home helping to give it a makeover.
“At first it was just the roof,” said Rob Hubbard, who helped fix the roof with money raised by the community.
As he and others worked people stopped by and were inspired. They found other things that needed to be done.
“Then everyone said, well what if we do this? What if we paint that? What if we rebuild the shed?” said Stephanie Smith, a friend who helped organize the project.
Little did the Musson’s know they would bring a community together and show that when people come together great things can happen. For now the Musson’s can relax on the things at their home knowing everything is in order, and hopefully Scott can get his injuries rectified in the near future and get back to his old self.
