June 2015 marks a historic month for the FDNY. Is the first month in organizations 150 year history that they were no fire related deaths in New York City. The FDNY should be proud of this accomplishment.
This just goes to show the commitment that the FDNY is making in regards to safety. Firefighters already have a dangerous job to do, they are trying to make an impact in the community and save lives throughout the city.
In 2015 there have been 29 fire related deaths in the city. The record high for number of deaths is 310 set in 1970. The last five years have shown that fewer New Yorkers have died in fires than any other comparable five year period.
Fire safety is extremely important no matter if you are a civilian or a firefighter. To see such a decline in deaths shows at the FDNY is training the best. Firefighters and EMTs are trained to quickly respond; assess the situation, rescue and treat the injured, and out the structure fire.
