The Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) cited a Florida patio and pool enclosure installer after an employee died on the job after a fall.
OSHA investigated the Naples, FL company L.I. Aluminum Design Inc. after an employee fell while installing patio screen enclosures. They received four serious citations, and face proposed penalties of $40,096.
The company received a serious violation for exposing workers to fall hazards, one for failing to protect workers from falls at a height of ten feet or more, and another for failing to train workers on fall protection. They also received a citation for failing to train employees in the proper use of ladders.
“This tragedy could have been avoided if the employer had ensured that workers were adequately trained and wearing appropriate fall safety equipment,” said Condell Eastmond, OSHA Office Director for the Ford Lauderdale Area. “Falls are preventable if required safety measures are implemented.”
