Last week an explosion at a Dippin’ Dots production facility in McCracken County, KY injured four workers.
The CEO of Dippin’ Dots, Scott Fischer, said that the explosion occurred in a production area around 10 p.m. but could not comment on the cause of the blast. All four workers were hospitalized. One of the workers was released was released the next day but there is not an update on the condition of the other workers.
Paducah city spokeswoman Pam Spencer said the plant had a nitrogen leak but it wasn’t yet known if that caused the explosion or happened as a result of the explosion. Nitrogen is what is used to flash-freeze the ice cream. Employees were not allowed back in the building after the explosion because the oxygen level was too low, the power was shut off and smoke remained inside.
