The United States Department of Labor’s Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) cited Hamiltime Herb Co. LLC in Howell, NJ after inspectors found that employees were exposed to safety and health hazards. The company is a pet food manufacturer.
This inspection was a follow-up investigation after two investigations in June and August of last year, when an employee had four fingers amputated when they were cleaning a batch mixer and it was activated. This May 2018 inspection found that the company failed to develop a lockout/tagout program to prevent machines from starting up unexpectedly and failed to develop a respiratory protection program that requires employees to wear tight-fitting respirators. They also exposed employees to unguarded machinery and failed to properly train and certify employees to operate a forklift.
