The United States Department of Labor’s Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) cited a company in Ohio for exposing their employees to multiply safety and health hazards at their production plant.
Fuyao Glass America Inc. is an automotive glass manufacturer. OSHA inspected their Moraine, OH cite under their “Site-Specific Targeting program” which directs enforcement resources to workplaces with the highest rate of injuries and illnesses. This plant had been inspected 12 times in the past four years and on this recent inspection they were cited for nine repeat and 13 serious violations. The violations included exposing employees to electrical safety violations, failing to evaluate the workplace to determine permit-required confined spaces, failing to train employees on lockout/tag out and entering confined spaces, failing to install machine guarding and failing to provide hearing protection, personal protective equipment or fall protection. They received repeat violations for improper labeling of hazardous chemicals, failing to identify confined spaces and train workers on entering confined spaces.
“This company’s repeated failure to implement and enforce safety and health programs at the workplace is unacceptable,” said Acting Regional Administrator Bill Donovan, in Chicago, Illinois. “Employers must continually evaluate their facilities for hazards, and train employees and managers to use proper safety controls and equipment to keep their worksites safe and healthful.”
They are facing $724,380 in penalties.
