Ohio BWC is Helping Businesses Expand
March 14, 2026

ohio7Ohio BWC has hit a milestone and just issued its 100th policy under the Other States Coverage program.  This is a program that helps Ohio businesses protect their employees and businesses when they have employees who work in another state. Under this policy employees are protected without the need to manage policies in multiple states with different laws.

According to Sarah Morrison – BWC Administrator/CEO says that they are hearing that businesses are feeling more comfortable pursuing business in other states because of this program.  They now only have one policy to manage instead of multiple plans in multiple states.

Bil-Jax, Inc., located in Archbold (Fulton County) and has been in business since 1947. With around 200 employees, the company manufactures aerial work platforms and scaffold products. More than 25 full-time employees work in Virginia and additional sales and service employees are scattered throughout at least nine other states. All of these employees are now insured through the Other States Coverage program.

Generally the BWC provides coverage for employees temporarily working outside of Ohio. However when an injury occurs complications can arise and treatment plans can be delayed in the other state.

In 2015 a law was enacted that granted the BWC the power to contract with an insurer to provide this coverage.  They are currently working with the United States Insurance Services (USIS) and Zurich for this.
