The Texas Department of Insurance’s Division of Workers’ Compensation released this year’s Insurance Carrier Performance Based Oversight assessment, in which insurers were reviewed for their performance when it comes to paying initially temporary income benefits, processing initial medical bills, processing requests for reconsideration of medical bills, submitting initial payment data by EDI and submitting medical bill processing data by EDI.

Of the 121 carriers they reviewed, 55 were identified as “high performers”, 65 were in the average performer tier and one was labeled a poor performer. Different measures were given different weights. Timely payment of initial temporary income benefits by the carrier was given the most weight with 40%, and when broken down by measure only 33 insurers were placed in the high tier for this measure. 16 received poor tier performance reviewed for this measure. Timely processing of initial medical bills by the carrier was given 30% weight, and 117 carriers were labeled high tier performers with no carriers receiving poor tier performance assessments. The other measures were weighted at 10% each.
