December 24, 2024

A Texas-based company, HHDP Security, was convicted of workers’ compensation premium fraud and ordered to pay restitution by a Travis County District Court judge.

The Houston security company made misrepresentations about payroll and operations at their business and another related company, Houston Harris Division Patrol, Inc. between May 28, 2005 and April 1, 2013. They were ordered to pay $51,131 in restitution.

Workers’ compensation insurance premiums are partly based on a company’s payroll and type of work performed. Employers who misrepresent their payroll and their operations receive lower premiums and have an unfair advantage over competitors.

The Texas Department of Insurance Division of Workers’ Compensation’s (TDI-DWC) prosecution unit obtained the indictment. Members of this unit are embedded in the Travis County District Attorney’s Office and are paid by DWC to fight fraud across the state.
