giants huddleA former NFL player and a claims adjuster may be in serious trouble after the adjuster was charged with filing false workers’ comp claims on his behalf.

Kimberly Jones has pled guilty to wire fraud for her role in a scheme to continue sending workers’ compensation checks after a claim was closed. She was an adjuster with Gallagher Bassett between 2001 and 2011 in their Sacramento office. Gallagher Bassett managed policies for the Pennsylvania Manufacturers’ Association Insurance Group, or PMA. PMA held a workers’ compensation policy for the New York Giants football team. Marcus Buckley played seven seasons for the Giants between 1993 and 2000. He filed a workers’ comp claim in 2006 for cumulative stress injuries and the claim was settled in 2010 for $300,000.

However, after the resolution of his case he continued to file more reimbursement requests through false statements and invoices. Since he played some games in California he could claim that some cumulative stress came from these games so he sent them to the California office where Jones worked. It is thought that Kimberly Jones passed these false invoices through because Buckley was still being sent workers’ comp checks. Buckley has not been charged with anything but prosecutors are investigating and charges may be pending. Jones agreed to pay at least $1.5 million in restitution.
